Hey team. My name is Shane, I'm from a South Otago town called Balclutha, I grew up on the family farm as a kid and have always loved playing rugby.
I am passionate about athletic development within the health & fitness industry. I value my time spent in the gym as a personal trainer, I have worked with various athletes and everyday people to further progress their health and performance. My main interests outside of work are rugby and boxing, I also love spending quality time with my young daughter, Evie. This is my 7th year in the fitness industry and 3rd year of working fulltime as a trainer.
With my love for contact sports like rugby and boxing, I prefer to train at a high intensity, although I have learnt there are layers to training at this intensity. Range of motion, stability & strength are the prerequisites needed before effectively training power, agility & speed. Pretty much making sure the body is safe and stable before thrashing it in high-intensity workouts and sport.
I like to help people understand movement and promote safe and effective exercise, so they're not away from sport or training because of injuries picked up in life, sport or in the gym.
I enjoy using boxing within my service, I believe there are huge benefits between both physical and mental health. There's many aspects of boxing that can help both athletes and everyday people feel, look and perform well. The footwork, change of direction, weight transfer and pressure to react under fatigue places high demand on the body and mind, leaving you feeling pretty invincible after a session.
My favorite sport is rugby, I have played both competitively at premier level and had some time with the Otago 7s squad. Because of constant injuries and family commitments I now enjoy training other rugby players and helping them with their performance. I have also been involved with Otago rugby as a strength and conditioning coach for the development team.
I studied at the University of Otago and gained a Bachelor of Physical Education, a 4 year degree which certified my passion of athletic-strength and conditioning. I like to take an analytical, structured approach to strength and conditioning that sustains an athlete in their sport or a client in the gym. I have trained a variety of clients through many forms of training. I have trained regional, provincial and international athletes competitively in football, boxing, rugby, touch, boxing and sailing.
I'm trained as a personalized health coach. A holistic method, based on body shape and genetic markers to prescribe an individualized health plan for change. I like to apply the knowledge I've learnt through this course to my clients.
Jenny Armstrong - 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist.
I first met Shane when I started doing Tribe Fit - I then had an accident requiring knee surgery and Shane has been instrumental part of slowing me down when I was trying to rehab too fast and now helping me to push hard to get fit and strong and get me back to competitive sailing. Shane is always keen to increase his knowledge base to better help his clients reach their goals. His listening and observation skills are integral to this and works together with his clients to create a program that works for them.

I have worked with Shane for 2 years now and I am so happy with my results that I have achieved under him. Shane is focused on technique and completing end of session mobility which means less chance of injury and a workout which actually provides the most benefit for your body. Shane is an encouraging and an energizing coach and I would 100% recommend him for helping you achieve your goals.
